There’s something about summer at Eagle Lake Sailing Club that just feels different—and if you listen closely, you’ll hear it: sails flapping, kids laughing, and someone yelling “Ready about?!”
Welcome to Junior Sailing.
From the moment campers hit the dock, it’s go-time. Life jackets on, boats rigged (with a little help… sometimes), and before long they’re out on the water catching their first gust of wind—and maybe their first unexpected splash. It’s all part of the experience.
What starts as “Which rope does what?” quickly turns into real-deal sailing. Campers learn how to steer, trim sails, and work with the wind (instead of fighting it). And somewhere along the way, they go from a little unsure to totally hooked.
Of course, it’s not all serious sailing. There are games on the water, spontaneous races, and the occasional friendly competition to see who can master a tack without… creative improvisation. Capsize drills? More like the highlight of the week.
And then there’s the in-between stuff—the dockside jokes, the new friendships, the quiet confidence that sneaks up on them. By the end of the session, these kids aren’t just sailing… they’re owning it.
Parents notice it too. The confidence. The independence. The stories that start with “You won’t believe what happened on the water today…”
Junior Sailing at Eagle Lake Sailing Club isn’t just about learning to sail (though they absolutely do). It’s about trying something new, getting a little messy, laughing a lot, and discovering just how fun the wind can be when you know how to catch it.
Fair warning: they may come home tired, sun-kissed, and already asking to go back next year.
Registration for summer camp and classes for children ages 8 and up is open! For details and to register, visit us at Eaglelakesailingclub.org and click on the Jr Sailing tab.
